Goalie Factory
North Stars Goalie Factory
The Goalie Factory initiative goes beyond being just a McKinney North Stars program — it represents a shift in how we approach goaltender development in Texas.
Our goals are simple:
- Provide the best goalie development experience in the state
- Keep kids excited about the position through engaging, athletic training
- Retain multi-sport, well-rounded athletes in net
Here’s how we plan to bring this vision to life:
1. Practice Curriculum Leadership by Chris Johansen & Hunter Leisner
- Coach Chris and Coach Hunter will design and lead the practice plans for all goalies, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Goaltenders are not there to be “shooting targets” — they are there to develop as athletes.
- Training will emphasize:
- Athleticism
- Skating
- Competing - Game scenarios
2. House League Integration & 8U Philosophy
- We will collaborate with the DSMHL house league to:
- Educate parents and coaches about the importance of not having full-time 8U goalies
- Rotate all players through the position in a fun, low-pressure way
- Focus on athleticism and creativity, rather than pigeonholing kids into a goalie identity at age 7
3. Monday Night Goalie Sessions – Our Development Flagship
- These dedicated sessions, led by Chris Johansen, will continue to be the centerpiece of our goalie programming.
- The sessions will be:
- Progressive, structured, and consistent in their development focus
- High intensity
- Centered on technique, movement, and FUN
4. Video Review
- Every North Star goalie will receive professional video review, led by Chris Johansen.
- Chris will review games and write a detailed analysis of the game.
- This allows for detailed analysis and personalized feedback to help goalies elevate their performance.
Summary
The Goalie Factory initiative is about more than just McKinney — it’s about setting the standard for goaltender development across Texas. Our focus is on the long-term health of the position and the kids who play it. If we get it right, goalies will thrive in Mckinney.
